Technological Revolution - Time for Educational Revolution

Imagine a world full of Artificial Intelligence. Imagine a world where all cars take you from point A to point B with no driver. Imagine walking into out of house dirty and walking back in a few hours later to find that your robot vacuum has cleaned up for you. These things are on the way. We don’t know how long it will be. We need to ask ourselves, What will happen to the generation that are born with all these luxuries? Especially with the education available right now. Will they be able to sit in Maths and concentrate or will they be wondering what game they’re going to play at home? We want them to have a fun and efficient education as well as a luxurious lifestyle.

Technology plays a fundamental role in our lives. We rely hugely on technology for everything and we don’t even notice it. The generation where the use of all types of innovated products has been the norm since their first breath, with Artificial Intelligence devices like Google Home and Amazon Alexa presenting themselves in an ever increasing number of houses across the globe. We use technology to wake up, to order an Uber, to navigate to work, to shop online and to engage in many more activities. We have improved our quality of life with our recent innovation. Technology is a widespread approach to living our everyday lives. Yet, the system and the process has not really been used to help us develop as people. We see it as a very useful method of communication, travelling and shopping.

However, one area where technology has not been developed is within education and learning. The use of technology has increased productivity for adults who work, but how about for the next generation? There is now widespread criticism of the use of social media all over the news with the health secretary warning that social media platforms could be ‘banned’ in the UK. (BBC, 2019). The generation where the use of all types of innovated products has been the norm since their first breath, with Artificial Intelligence devices such as Google Home and Amazon Alexa presenting themselves in more and more houses across the globe. (Levy, 2018).

Online abuse is growing in numbers and threating the mental health of a large proportion of children and young adults. (NSPCC). This is where we realise more disadvantages of technology, when children only have one way of thinking, which is in front of a laptop or computer. A way learning can be helped is if innovation was made ‘brain friendly’ because it would help develop younger minds in schools all around the world. It would make it easier and fun for younger level students to learn. (Dror, 2011). The use of innovation in learning can be revolutionary within education but unfortunately, aside from the smartboard and presentations, which are now considered old school, the education sector need something new to develop the minds of the next generation. Another important aspect is the physical aspect of learning.
